Collaborations

Comme des Garcons and Dover Street Market

Drakes has collaborated with Comme des Garcons for several years now, a personal pleasure for me because I've been a fan of Rei Kawakubo for as long as I can remember. Rei respectfully selects special designs from our general collection, and then re-works the colours based on her own seasonal palette. Dover Street market stocks both Comme de Garcons Drakes exclusives together with a wide selection of  items from our open collection.

Monocle

We are a big fan of Tyler Brûlé and therefore very pleased to be working with Monocle, now in our fourth year of collaboration. Our scarves and, new later this season, gloves are presented through Monocle magazine, monocle.com, and in Monocle stores in London, New York, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo and Osaka. In the spirit of Comme des Garcons, Tyler selects styles from our general collection which his design team re-colours and adapts to become Monocle exclusives.

Tyler's observations of his first visit to Drakes can be read in the Editor-in-Chief article for Monocle in our press section

J. Crew

Mickey Drexler and I go back to the very beginning of Drakes, when he was working for Ann Taylor and frequently used my studio as his office-away-from-home. Mickey moved on to The Gap and Banana Republic and we continued to keep in touch (I actually did a stint consulting for both companies at one point).  He's a great talent, and his obvious style and taste level are easily discerned, not least from the fact that he's got an enormous collection of Drakes scarves which span the years and, knowing him, are probably all in mint condition.

With that back story in mind, I'm very pleased (and slightly amused) to say that our contact with J. Crew actually came through his design team, who were completely unaware of our past connection.

Our collaboration with J Crew is new for Winter 2010 and is based around a small but perfectly selected group of rather special scarves including our Kings Cashmere quality and Guernsey Patchwork knits . Additionally the new J Crew flagship men’s store at 1040 Madison will be stocking a limited collection of  narrower braces. There are further plans afoot to produce an exclusive range for the women’s stores commencing Spring 2011. We’ll keep you posted.
