Luxury Scarves

Drakes was founded 30 years ago and our first product was luxury scarves. At the time the only scarves available were classic plain or tartan scarves, basically being shown year after year with no innovation.

What Drakes did was to produce a collection of oversize scarves, which weren't available elsewhere in the market at that time, in ranges of colours inspired by a book of Alpine Flowers.

With our first scarf collection, rather than showing the ten basic colours, we offered a selection of more than forty shades.

This seems normal now but was revolutionary at the time. We also introduced a collection of Vintage tartans, not then easily available, also oversized these were an instant hit and transformed the company's turnover within a year. The problem became more of a production one than a selling one.

The first thing that success brings is competition and we very quickly realised we needed to keep coming up with new ideas every season to stay ahead. This remains true today and it's vital to have the right thing at the right time. To this end we are always developing special luxury scarves, which can't be found elsewhere.

The wide range goes from the most classic luxurious scarves to the most fashionable scarves. All of our scarves show the particular Drakes handwriting, often with subtle details like the reverse being a slightly different design, or colour, or cloth from the front of the scarf, or the colours changing two thirds of the way through the scarf, so that when it is tied, both colours are visible.

The scarves are all woven or knitted in mills in the UK. The majority of silk scarves are hand printed in the UK with the women's foulard silk squares hand printed in Italy.

We offer the finest lightweight qualities in a vast range of solid colours, appropriate for men and women all year round. The finest weight scarves are made in larger sizes as the volume condenses when tied. They are ideal for travelling and can be worn as a shawl by women in the summer time.

Our heavier "Oyster Finish" cashmere scarf is ideal for winter and has the classic ripple finish. This scarf, suitable for men and women, is available in the traditional size.This group of scarves have the familiar smooth finish of a luxury cashmere scarf.

Lightweight Cashmere Scarves in Shetland Finish

This new quality has been developed for the Winter 2008 season with a old world handle, rather than a classic smooth cashmere finish.This is intentional to give a sporty feel in keeping with the vintage check designs and pin fringe finish. These scarves are produced oversized.

Cashmere Blended 80% Cashmere 20% Wool Scarves Shetland Finish

These qualities also have a sporty handle, slightly heavier and more suitable for colder days. Vintage tartan and sport jacket designs inspired by mens fashion from the 20's,are our particular favourites.

Reversible 100% Silk to 100% Wool

These are Drakes classics. 30 oz pure silk reversing to the finest 160s worsted wool in suiting designs. A refined accessory for the discerning few.
