Charcoal Tartan Scarf

Shop online for Scarves

This is our world, we don't just sell scarves, we have been making them for over thirty years, and I can say without undue modesty this is an area where we have a lot of experience.  When we started our company those many years ago, the only scarves for men were the classic tartans (Royal Stewart and Black Watch) and basic solid colours (grey, navy, red, camel) in standard size (30 x 137cm). We changed all that: our first collection had over 40 shades, many of which I took from an illustrated  book of Alpine plants that was knocking around the house, without thinking about what colours were in fashion and what were not.

An Aesthetic Anomaly We're Rather Proud Of

Well, sometimes it's easier to be new when you're starting out and don't know what you're doing, isn't it? But from the beginning I intended something new that had an individual handwriting, using only the finest of raw materials.  We did all those solids, and then re-coloured some Tartans. Not exactly like building a particle accelerator to lay a purple over-check on a Black Watch pattern, but it was new at the time and customers lined up to buy.  The first two were Old England and Agnes B, both in Paris.  To our delight, we realized we were able to sell our product to the most conservative and the most fashionable shops.  It's something of an aesthetic anomaly we're rather proud of, and which continues today.            Fairisle Grey Scarf

Our Scarves are Special

All our woven and knitted scarves are made in the UK.  We use only the finest 100% cashmere, in both the classic “oyster” finish and a rather special Shetland-napped finish for the ultimate in warmth and sophistication.  Our wool-and-Angoras, Geelong lambswools, and 3-ply superfine merinos are the best obtainable on the market today.  All our lightweight wool-and-silk printed scarves are oversized.

Our Signature Styling

Our hand writing is perhaps best described as Quirky English Chic, and best explained as the way the Italians and French imagine English style to be, but in reality is sadly harder and harder to find these days.  For Fall we offer in addition to our special basics – an extensive range of handsome solid cashmeres – semi-reversible wool/angoras, vintage Tartans in our Shetland finish with authentic pin-fringe ends, cashmere Estate checks in re-worked colours, printed spots reversing small to large, and Tartan wool reversing to silk mini dots.

Style is a simple way of saying complicated things (Jean Cocteau)
